Big Four Ice Caves
We have been so lucky to go hiking almost every weekend this summer. On of our new favorite hikes is the Big Four Ice Caves. We went two weekends in a row! It is easy and short enough for Liz to walk the whole way and just long enough that it is worth the time. That, and it is gorgeous!
You just try and slow her down!
Lots of trees had been eroded under the roots and Steve kept telling Liz that they were animal houses. Liz loved exploring them.
I really loved this tree. I could almost see it as some old creature that had sat down to rest and then never woke up. It was beautiful.
Great view of the mountain at the end of the hike. This is where and avalanche had come through and required a bit of redirecting of the trail.
The second time we went we even got Grandma to come with us (that is a first!) as well as Ashton and Max.
These are the snow caves at the end. They are huge and really quite beautiful. We knew that they were dangerous and so we didn't go inside, but we didn't realize quite how dangerous. A week after we took these pictures a little girl was killed standing about where we were when a huge chunk of ice broke off and rolled/ bounced onto her. Makes me appreciate my babies all the more!
