All About Jack

I had an 'all-Liz' post a few weeks back, so now it is my son's turn. Jack was born exactly ten months ago today (yes, he was born on Christmas). He was named after his two grandpas, Jonathan and Allen. For those of you who don't understand the nickname Jack- there are two reasons- 1) His initials are JAC and 2) Jack is an old-fashioned nickname for Jon, or Jonathan (ask somebody really old that you know, and no, 50 is not old). Actually, it was the nickname that sold me on the name, Steve and I just love it, and it fits Jack like a glove. Jack has no fear and zero sense of self preservation. He will climb on anything that will stand still, and some things that won't. He will fling himself off couches, out of arms, and down stairs. The fact that he is alive today and has escaped any serious injury is only due to the tender mercies of a loving Heavenly Father.
Jack is also very curious (odd for a baby, I know). He loves to figure out how things work. Most babies will put everything in their mouth to explore it, which Jack does as well, but Jack adds his own sense of finesse to it. He will also shake it, and then bang it on his forhead. If the object is too big to move then he will bang his forhead on the object. His forhead is usually black and blue. Note the picture below...

You play hard, you sleep hard... I actually hate it when he falls asleep in his stroller, because regardless of how quickly you wake him up, he always seems to think that he has had his full nap and all hopes of a nap for the day are completely dashed.

Jack's first food was bananas and he still loves them. Here he appears to have used them as an all over moisturizer, but a baby has to keep his skin soft somehow!

In addition to having a Grandpa Jon, Jack also has an Uncle Jon. This is not him, this is his hillbilly alter-ego, Jethro. We are not related to Jethro... at least we hope not.

Now tell me, could you even think about saying no to a face like that? Especially when he flashes his toothy grin (he has 6 1/2 teeth) you just melt. Luckily though, he can't talk, so I don't really have to say no yet!

Jack is a daddy's boy. When he was tiny, only Steve could get him to sleep. I used to call him 'the baby whisperer'. Even now, unless I nurse him, Jack will only fall asleep voluntarily for his dad.

My good friend, Miriam, gave me a Shark (steam cleaner) when we moved back to Rexburg (can I even begin to say thank you enough?). Jack, however, is facinated with it. The whole steam burn possibility doesn't seem to phase him and he is pulled magnetically toward it. Perhaps he is just attempting to tell me of his love for cleaning. How early is too early to give the boy some chores?

I am a bit curious which behaviors are learned and which are genetic? Liz is going to be a cowgirl for Halloween, and so Jack is going to be a cowboy... sort of. Steve opted for the coonskin hat instead of a cowboy hat, and then promptly called his parents to bring out his own mountain man garb. So Jack will be a bit of a mountain man for Halloween. If he could talk, I bet you he would choose that anyway!

Liz loves family home evening... and now so does Jack. I'm not positive, but I think that he got as much of the desert on his face and tray as he did into his mouth. He was so delighted with himself that we couldn't help but enjoy it as well. We had to put him and Lizzy straight into the bath, any other option was just hopeless.

Jack has been crawling since just before we left Washington. He has now ventured out into the world of outdoor crawling and seems to love it.

This is my favorite picture. I am standing just above Jack and he is looking up at me. It makes me feel so loved to look at that little face. Kids are the greatest, they are able to love you some purely, and so intensely that you can not help but light up when they look at you. Also, check out those beautiful blue eyes- his dad's.
