Happy Halloween!

Whenever Jack plays on the porch he is transfixed by the pumpkins. We managed to keep him away from the neighbor's pumpkins for the most part, but his time with our pumpkin was quite the highlight of his afternoon.

Somehow children know when they are allowed to play with their parent's real stuff as opposed to toys. Whenever Steve put his hat on Jack he would just beam. Don't let his innocent smile fool you though, he was absolutely desolate everytime we took off the hat.

Liz and Jack's costumes were made by Grandma Debbie this year. Jack was a sheriff, but mostly he was just cute.

Cowgirl Liz! For three days she rode around on that horse (his name is Rocketship, not sure why) yelling "yee-haw!" "giddi-up!" and "howdy, partner!" Once she put on the hat and the boots there was no turning back!

I didn't know a 3-year-old could strut, but there she goes! Those boots were made for walking... (thanks aunt Stacy!)

One of Liz's new friends, Noah. He is a little bit older, but he is so nice to her. One of the things that I love about our new apartment is how nice all of the neighbors are and all of the kids in the neighborhood for Liz and Jack to play with.

Refer to earlier comment about Jack in his dad's hats... Too bad my parents never had Sapho made into a hat, it would have fit Jack perfectly. Maybe that is a bit morbid, but I prefer to think of it as a good way to remember a her...

We went 'trunk-or-treating' with Adney and his family. It was a blast. One of my favorite things about Adney lately is that he and Liz have switched roles. When I used to watch him, Liz was always trying to hug and kiss him, even when he was supposed to be saying sorry. Now, when Liz is supposed to give him a hug or say goodbye, Adney will chase her down to hug her or give her a hug or kiss on the cheek... Ah, young love!

Steven was a mountain man for Halloween. He loved getting into all of his old getup from his reenacting days. He even won an honorable mention at the ward party costume contest. We are so proud!

Dad was the one who actually got to take Liz around. I stayed and manned the trunk. A few things kind of bugged me though. 1) kids didn't even say trick or treat, they just came up to you and held out their bag. That is fine if you are two, but not if you are 13! Why are they still out anyway? 2) some of the kids just reached right into your bowl and dug around for the kind and number of candy they wanted and 3) I think only 3 kids said thank you, and 2 of them were Liz and Adney! I remember being much more polite as a trick-or-treater (right mom?) But one really cool thing about Halloween in Rexburg is that the whole town just celebrated it a day early, because it fell on Sunday. All of the town activities, the ward trunk or treats were all scheduled for Saturday, and even the regular trick or treaters were going door to door last night. It was really nice that our kids didn't have to miss out on one bit of Halloween by not going on Sunday. We had a lot of fun, I can't wait for next year!

Fun! I love that (celebrating early) about Utah too!
